The team and I have been busy since the schools re-started with Paediatric First Aid courses in particular proving popular - so an additional course date has been added in November. Our website is mostly fixed, but on occasion displaying an 'error' until it has been refreshed. This is down to the move to a different host, and we are currently redeveloping our whole website off-line, so please bear with us until this is ready, as it will remove the glitch! Open course dates for 2015 are in the planning stage, and dates will be available on our website shortly.

  Best wishes,

       Helen

Statutory Guidance for schools: Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions

chemistry-boy.jpgFrom 1st September 2014, new statutory guidance from the Department for Education dictates that schools have a duty of care to support pupils with pre-existing medical conditions in schools.
This requires implementation of policies, identification of roles and responsibilities, management of medications on site and staff training to name but a few areas.  A link to the white paper can be found by clicking here
.

Helen has been supporting a number of local schools with staff training on particular medical conditions including Asthma, Diabetes, Anaphylaxis and Sickle Cell Anaemia. I've also discovered a really helpful website called The Medical Conditions at School Website which contains training resources, posters, policies and other useful documents.

If your school would like to speak with Helen over any queries concerning this and in particular any training needs, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. stating who is the best person to speak to, their contact number and the best times to catch them around school commitments. Helen will then call them around her course training delivery.

Please vote for Local Charity: Meanwood Valley Urban Farm

wooly-bell-sheep.jpgMeanwood Valley Urban Farm (MVUF) is a local charity which is in with a chance to win a slice of Yorkshire Building Society's Lasting Legacy Fund. MVUF is one of 30 charities to make the public vote, however only the 15 most popular projects will receive a slice of the pot.  PLEASE HELP BY CLICKING HERE AND VOTING FOR THEM. The charity is one that I've supported as it is local to me for a number of years, and I've visited with many friends and their children; projects with all age ranges across the community stem from the farm and they hope to create an outdoor classroom to extend their education centre if they are successful.
