Winter 2017

Rebecca and her catIt's 'nearly Christmas' is the excited phrase that our 2 year-old keeps calling every time she sees more 'sparkly party lights'.... it is a truly magical time of year when seen through the eyes of a small child. She has already met Santa at the Meanwood Valley Urban Farm Christmas Fayre (see 'Cat' in picture which he gave her!) and is very excited about the upcoming holidays.  I hope that you get to spend time with special friends and family over the next few weeks.

Helena, myself and the rest of the team wish you a Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2018 - we look forward to working with you next year.

                Best wishes,
                             Helen

Should the need arise - don't be afraid to be a 'good Samaritan' over Christmas

I often get asked the question 'Will I be sued for doing first aid?'! At a busy time of year when many accidents happen outside on icy pavements I thought maybe it would be worth allaying any fears that folk have.
The bottom line is, that anyone working in the legal profession would really like us to help any friend or family member of theirs should the need arise - so they try really hard to keep situations involving first aiders out of court. Doing first aid, or the best that you can with whatever knowledge and training you've got just won't get you prosecuted. Whether it is doing CPR 'Vinnie Jones style' out on the street (many folk worry about breaking a rib and 'getting sued') or simply calling 999 and staying with a casualty to reassure them until help arrives, first aid makes a massive difference to those in need. What does get prosecuted is workplaces who do not have first aiders on site when the need arises when the workplace is deemed large enough legally to have them in place  and also anyone who follows a movie and starts performing surgery (a bic-biro tracheostomy is definitely not first aid). Things you can do to make the best of your abilities include keeping your training up to date and regularly updating your knowledge by reading your course manual and doing other related CPD or update training.
